Samsung phone foldable smartphone and an LG OLED TV are included in TIME magazine’s list of this year’s Best Inventions published on Tuesday.
The U.S. magazine annually publishes a list of Best Inventions to introduce innovative products and ideas. This year, it selected 200 inventions in 21 categories, including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 and LG’s Signature OLED M TV in consumer electronics.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is Samsung’s latest foldable smartphone. TIME said its 3.4-inch external screen, which is larger than its predecessor’s, is one of its key features. The screen “allows you to dip into important notifications without being lured in,” and “is also customizable.”
Unlike other TVs, LG’s Signature OLED M TV has no cables for inputs or outputs, except for a power cable. LG “moved all the cords for peripheral devices… into its TV Zero Connect Box,” which “wirelessly transmits high-quality audio and video signals to the screen up to 30 feet away,” the magazine said. It is the only TV among the 200 inventions.
It is the third consecutive year that a Samsung Galaxy smartphone has made the list. LG’s OLED TVs were previously selected as the best inventions from 2019 to 2021.
In the household category, Samsung’s Less Microfiber Filter was also named as one of this year’s best inventions. TIME said, “About 15 percent of the microplastics polluting our oceans can be traced back to synthetic fabrics. Samsung says… the device filters out 98 percent of microplastics released during the washing process.”
Others on the list include OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Dall-E 3 in the artificial intelligence category, Apple’s Vision Pro in augmented reality and virtual reality, and Apple’s Watch Ultra 2 in consumer electronics.
